A visual set of explainers showing the effect of marine life on carbon emissions.

China Dialogue, an independent, non-profit dedicated to promoting a common understanding of China’s environmental challenges, asked me to help them visualize some of the ways in which carbon moves through ocean ecosystems. Each graphic focused on a different aspect of the carbon cycle, including what happens when animals die, the role of carbon within the food cycle, and what happens during respiration.

This was a really fun and challenging brief, all the more so because China Dialogue publishes in both English and Chinese, and were keen to explore these topics without any copy so they could be understood by both audiences. I used a mixture of impactful illustration, helpful icons and clearly defined processes to create a set of graphics that are simple to understand and fun to explore.
